Frequently Asked Questions

1. Is this system supported by a state licensing board?

Yes. CIS has been working in full cooperation and conjunction with the Louisiana State Licensing Board for Contractors at every stage of development.

2. How bad is the problem of unlicensed contractors? Why should I worry about this?

By one estimate, for every licensed contractor working in the state, there are five who are not licensed. Thousands of complaints have been filed and hundreds of criminal investigations have been conducted across the Gulf Coast. Most home owners who get swindled have a difficult time fighting in court and even if they do win find it difficult to track down faulty contractors.

3. How do I know that my contractor’s card is the real thing?

You can call the 800 number on the card to verify or check on line to ensure your contractor is licensed and current. The card also has a number of other anti fraud features.

4. What do I do if the contractor tells me his card is at the home office?

  • Step 1: Get the phone number for the home office and the name of the qualifying party.
  • Step 2: Contact that person.
  • Step 3: Get the CIS card number from that person and verify that the person standing before you is who he says he is.
  • Step 4: by calling the 800 number or submitting the CIS number on line.

5. What do I do if the contractor is not verified?

First, tell the contractor that the number is not verified and to follow up with his employer and/or the Licensing Board. DO NOT ENGAGE IN ANY TYPE OF WORKING RELATIONSHIP WITH THE CONTRACTOR UNTIL THE ISSUE IS RESOLVED.

6. Who is Authentix?

Authentix supplies the anti-fraud technology that is featured on the card. They are dedicated to the identification and removal of fraudulent and counterfeit products around the world. They have a global client base which includes the US Federal government. For more information visit www.authentix.com.

7. If I am a contractor and my number does not verify how do I resolve the issue?

All inquiries into non-verified numbers should be directed to the state licensing board. Their contact information is available on the CONTACT page of this site.

8. I’m a contractor; how do I get a CIS card?

The CIS card application is submitted with the state license renewals. It can also be obtained for one, two, or three year terms. If you don’t have a card and have recently renewed your license contact the state licensing board for a CIS card application.

9. I’m a commercial contractor; do I need a CIS card?

No. Currently the program is only for residential contractors.

This is a feature that we are working on and hope to have fully functional soon.
